Excellent run today.  Met up w/ Buff & Heather for early morning run (actually got myself out of bed!).  The weather was about 48 degrees & breezy.  Very nice running weather, bit if a headwind for part of the run- but not too bad- wind was actually on our back for the nasty hill so that was nice.  I felt very fresh & energetic today.  My challenge is to feel this fresh more often on my runs while running more frequently!

Had some snow here in St. George yesterday, it was cool.  Jim & I went to lunch and when we entered the restaurant it was 60 out, when we left it was mid 30's and blowing snow- amazing how quick those storms move in!

Weight class this morning.  Really enjoyed it today.  Didn't try to lift TOO heavy of weights which is what I usually do, then I'm sore for days.  I tried to lift just enough to feel the benefits, but not be so sore that I can't get my running in.  Let's hope it worked.

Didn't get in bed early enough last night- feeling the effects of 2 nights with less than 6 hrs. sleep and probably no nap today.  Will have to more self disciplined about bedtime tonight!

8 broken up hrs. of sleep.  I should be running today, but I feel pretty cruddy.  I am sore all over.  Combination of catching Arielle's cold (she's been home from school for the last 2 days coughing on me) and I think I'm also sore from weight training class.  This winter bug just won't go away.  Its making its 3rd appearance since Nov. at our house.  Ah well, send me energy bloggies- I really should get in at least 5 today....

Head cold is still here, but feel better after resting yesterday and getting an OK amount of sleep last night (ok, amt. of sleep could have been better, scared to see Lybi's report- hee hee!).

Funny though, when I first got outta bed this morning I couldn't walk straight, I kept wanting to fall to the left- my balance & equilibrium were off- I guess from the head cold?... I wasn't sure if I would be able to run, but I decided to try and it was fine once I started running... weird though, never experienced anything like that.

Ran 7 mi. on treadmill at gym this morning.  Couldn't brave the temps outside without a partner.  Told Heather I would pick her up & she was to go to a class at gym while I ran, but I got to her house and she was still asleep.  I knew she was up all night w/ toddler w/ ear infection.  I've been there, no fun for Heather! I was glad I told her I'd pick her up anyway 'cause it got me up.

I actually didn't get too bored on the treadmill 'cause there's about 8 TVs w/ different channels on so I could channel surf and keep myself occupied.  I'm not smarter than the treadmill so I'm not sure of my pace, it kept trying to slow down and make me cool down after an hour so my time got screwed up.  Pretty good easy run, I would guess 9:50 ish av. pace.  I'm all caught up on the highlights from the repub. debate last night and Britney being taken to the hospital again... blah... blah...blah...

Hey gang.  So I'm supposed to run a 10k tomorrow... Any other SG people running the Tuachan Duathlon tomorrow? (not like any SG people are reading this ... ha!) I'm not excited about the race because no one is running it with me and no IPODs allowed on course- what will I do? Ah well.. better go anyway and treat it as a training run.   I signed up for this race in Dec. when I was desperate to find a winter race.  Then it was cancelled for bad weather and postponed until tomorrow.. Anyway...

I've still got a headcold, but not too bad.  Just frustrating 'cause the nose is stuffy, ya know? I'm getting out for an easy/ yet hilly- 4 miler this afternoon.

Update- ended up doing an evening 5.75 w/ Heather instead of the 4 miler I was planning on.  Pretty slow & didn't feel easy.  We were dodging lots of Fri. afternoon after work traffic. Hope the 10k will be OK tomorrow!

Beautiful race today at Tuacahn! I ran the 10k portion of the Tuacahn Duathlon.  Very small race, I would guess not much more than 20 runners for the 10k and probably about the same in the other races. There were 4 races going on:5k, 10k, sprint duathlon &  olympic duathlon.  Perfect weather (about 40 degrees), blue sky w/ red rock background.  I saw Ruth before the start and we warmed up a bit together.  I also introduced myself to another blogger who was wearing the racing singlet.  I feel really silly now because I can't remember his name! Started with an "L", didn't look older, but he introduced me to his daughter & grandchild, so I would guess late 40's? Anyway- hope I can remember his name.  NICE family!  Steve H. was also there handing out water and I saw another blue jacket that I didn't recognize.  So a small FRB representation, but hey- this was a small race. Ok- onto the race:

I started out way too fast, under 8 min. miles.  I had set my garmin for funsies to 49:45 to see if I could break 50.  My best ever 10k was a 8:17 pace on the downhill spectrum course so I knew this was a VERY ambitious goal for today.  My overall pace today ended up 8:29.  Definately not a PR, but I think perhaps a PR effort.  This was a tough course.  First 2 miles flat, then about 1.5 uphill into snow canyon park.  This is where it got really interesting.  There was supposed to be a spot marked turn around, I was at 3.5 mi. on my garmin and still didn't see the turn around or any water station.  There was supposed to be water every mile but I only saw it at mi. 1 & mi. 2- I passed them up thinking I would get water around mi. 3 or 1/2 way through the race- none to be found.  At this point I'm wondering if I should turn around to keep looking for the turnaround, then I see Ruth running back the other way- she tells me to turn around NOW! Apparently the 2 other runners ahead of me missed the turn around too, and they ran even farther than me. So I turned around.  I was frustrated that I ended up running over a 7 mi. race, but it was encouraging to be the 3rd overall runner and 1st in my age group (scored a very pretty medal) (given their wasn't much competition -LOL!)  I spoke w/ the race director afterwards he was really apologetic and swore there was a sign there- he doesn't know what happened to it.  I believe him, because the rest of the race was really well ran.  They gave out nice race packets before hand w/ a really nice waterbottle and some other trinkets.  Then they had a free kids' race (1/3 mi). Each kid rec. a medal and bag of goodies w/ some nice small toys.  My son LOVED that.  So I'm cutting them some slack, don't know if everyone will feel that generous though... My official race time was 59-something, but that was because I ran over 7 miles! I used my Garmin virtual trainer and at 6.21 it had 52:45 for me so I'm going with that!
