PR! (beat my previous 1/2 PR by 6 minutes- maybe really about 4 minutes since this course was a bit short...)

All showered and cozied (sp?) up in my Painter's sweatshirt- time to get down to the nitty gritty race report.  Whoo- hoo! I'm stoked, still on my runner high.  This race and the days leading up to it were nearly perfect if only Michelle & Lybi where here to enjoy too!

Ok- start w/ FRB party last night.  Really good time.  Not as awkward as the first party where I didn't know anyone.  This time faces were familiar and even when I saw Marcie & Josse for the first time it was like I knew them.  Good food and a very nice party put on by Steve & Kendra- THANKS! (I think my family of non-runners even had fun!)

Sleep last night was good EXCEPT I got a charlie horse at 3am that woke me up in major pain! I got up and tried to walk it off, but I was really scared because it hurt to walk on.  I took 800 mg ibuprofen to reduce inflamation and went back to bed (I know- I brought up ibuprofen- a no-no to some of you...) I honestly didn't know if I'd be able to run the race.  I tried to go back to bed and not think about it until the morning. Luckily come morning it was almost back to normal so I went for it!

Heather & I met up a few minutes before the race and walked to warm up.  I set my virtual partner (garmin) to 1:55 hoping I could make it.  Let me say the 1:55 really came from Sasha's prediction for me.  I probably would have been lazier and just tried to beat 1:59 my former 1/2 PR.  But I'm really thankful Sasha gave me that extra push with his prediction and made me perform to a bit higher level. Heather & I stayed together almost the whole race and she finished just about 30 seconds after me.  Here's the splits:

1- 8:47 feeling good, warming up, getting hot FAST

2 - 8:16 ditched the gloves & headband, feeling good

3 - 8:20 still feeling good, passed up water stop

4 - 8:10 great

5- 8:38 looking forward to water and gu in about a mile

6 - 8:07

7- 8:29

8 - 8:38

9 - 8:55- I passed up the chance to gu at mile 8 and was really fading here on mile 9, decided to take some gu without water- worked out good, glad I didn't wait any longer

10 - 8:35- back on track

11 - 8:48- things are starting to get tough, anxious to be done- saw Sasha heading back and he was a lifesaver! He really cheered me on the last 2 miles, my body didn't want to do faster than 9 min. miles after mile 11- SASHA- THANK YOU!

12 - 9:08 - hanging on, wanted to push it but was afraid I'd pass out or something

.88- 8:53 - Whew!!! Done!!

I didn't see the clock, nor was I really sure exactly where the finish line was?! My garmin clocked 12.88 for distance.  So if it was an accurate course then Sasha's prediction would be just about right on for me.  I'm very excited about my time!

O MY GOSH!!! You are AMAZING! Now all that talk about how you might not be ready just sounds funny. Is this a PR for you? I am SO impressed, you super-woman! Boy, I'm sure glad I wasn't trying to keep up with YOU!

That's awesome that Sasha ran you in too. You deserve that honor.

From Christi on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 16:18:58

Hey Lybi! Man I missed you! Next time- OK? Yeah, it was crazy to have Sasha run me in, but I love him for it! Sorry I didn't take any pics!! You can punch me in the arm when you see me. I think some other bloggies did so we'll have to wrestle the pics out of them!

From Mik'L on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 16:22:28

You should be excited about your time! That is awesome! I'm still dying that I didn't see you come in because I was totally scanning the runners looking for you! I even saw Heather. Great job and I think you should be glad you decided to do that half because you rocked it!

From Jody on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 16:30:09

50 commando points for the PR. Just think, you almost bailed on this race. Very good mental effort. Did you use your mantra? good things to come for you this year running.

Stay focused, train hard, B of BS Rools out

From Michelle on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 20:48:39

WOW!!! You totally went out and BLEW that race away!!! I'm soooo glad that you decided to go for it! So how was the course overall, did it feel too hard? After doing foreman all the time it was probably a breeze!!! You totally underestimate your fitness too! You are going to keep tearing it up out there this year and have even more and more PR's!!! You were AWESOME!!!

From crumpyb1 on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 22:44:58

Congratulations! I am so glad you decided to run in this race. I am so excited for you--I love that runner's high feeling! What an awesome race!

From Christi on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 23:04:31

Jody- Wish you were here too- but I know we'll run some races together later this year!

Andee, Shauna, Dave- Thanks so much guys!! It means a lot to have you patting me on the back!

Amanda- I thought I saw you on the course but I was adjusting clothes or something at the moment & I wasn't sure it was you! Glad you had a good friend to run with that makes all the difference. Great job today!

Bryce- PR / Personal Record. The other night I decided to sit down and count all the races I can remember that I've done and I realized you've done at least 10 that I could think of. This is your year for comeback!! Pick a race!

Brent- Thanks! Must admit it was the garmin pushing me until mi. 11- that's when my mantra would've kicked in, but Sasha dragged me instead!

Michelle- the course wasn't as tough as I was afraid it would be- so that's a good thing! I'm curious to hear how things are going on the homefront?!

Adrianne- Thanks a bunch!! You have any races coming up?

From Kim on Sat, Jan 19, 2008 at 23:08:28

Way to go Christi! I sure wish I could have at least met you! I know there is no way I would have been able to run with you with those times! It would have been fun to see everyone at the party, but we had plans with the kids for last night. Maybe next blog party we will be able to get to know people a bit better. Glad you listened to Sasha and not yourself on this one! I knew with what I had seen of your training that you would be ahead of me.

Great job Christi on a solid PR! You now need to set your sights on 1:45! It was great to get to know you better this weekend, and I agree, the second blog party was much easier than the first.
