Good run.  Could've /Should've gone further.  Actually we thought we were going 8 until we clocked it afterwards and realized it was just short of that.  I want to do 10 next weekend.  Heather & I are getting really comfy chatting and going slow on our long runs.  We decided we need to meet up with some other folks to motivate us and pick up our speed a bit.  There's a group of local girls that we crossed paths with this morning (they were doing 10) and they invited us to run with them next week.  We took them up on it!  Since its a long run, we don't care much about our time or going very fast, but we can tell we are going REALLY slow on our long runs.. But over all good run.  I took some GU midway (after 4 miles) and had a great 2nd half , felt like I was floating.  Anybody out there have any feedback on GU and other gels.  Don't know if I should get hooked or not?! I hadn't taken any since the 1/2 marathon and just remembered this morning that I had some and thought it might help with energy on the 2nd half of my run today.  It did help.  But not sure how these gels really are for our bodies?

Actually 8 was just about right for today. However, 0 for Friday was not good. Random goose eggs for mileage are trouble in a number of ways. What injures you is not the amount of stress but rather a stress by surprise. A zero day followed by a make-up day is more stress that 10-15 mile days without breaks.

Regarding GU, and other nutrition during the run - I have discovered that after I started eating more rough unprocessed foods, my ability to absorb nutrition during a run improved a lot. I have been able to eat four bananas without slowing down during a marathon with no side effects. Powerade goes in much better than it used to. I do not quite know the mechanism of how it works - maybe being used to complex sugars makes it so much easier to absorb simple ones. Maybe the intestines are cleaner.
