Does anybody know anything about Charlie Horses? These plague me while sleeping from time to time.  I've had a couple in the last week and I got one the night before one of my 1/2 marathons this year.  Anyway, I've started taking my multivitamin again and I'm going to try to drink more water- I've read that may help.  My calf was really sore this morning from the CH, so I put off my morning run.  BUT I am PRE-BLOGGING right now- at least 4 miles this afternoon while "A" is at her afternoon sports.  There's a trail close by I will hop on and get in at least 4! Hold me to it!

PM Update:

So my son ended up with an evening try-out that I had forgotten I had to take him to.  So there went my scheduled run time.  I did make it out for a SHORT 2 miler later at night.  Not been the best week for mileage! I do think I'll get in some good miles Friday & Saturday, I've scheduled to meet up w/ running partners each day, that should help!

Sounds to me like you're body's craving calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Multivitamins are good but not as easily absorbed as regular food--and should be taken before bed. Sadines, spinch/kale, potate/banana those sorts of things can quickly pack a punch. Look up other foods high in potassium and calcium. I'd also be drinking about 8 oz of sports drink a couple of days before your race or long weekend run (in addition to drinking more water). Charley horses suck! They're like tiny mini-strokes in your foot or calf. Good luck!

Ouch! What I know about charlie horses is that they are dang painful and nearly debilitating. Sorry you've been having them! I have also heard that they can be caused by calcium deficiencies, though. Milk is the best source of calcium imho, because it also has all the nutrients necessary to ABSORB the calcium, such as vitamin D and phosphorus. Have fun on your 4 miler...I'll be watching. ;)

So I guess I’m an activist at heart. I noticed we’ve only had 13 votes but 144 views and there are more of you out there. I know some people don’t use the discussion board of the blog so I’m posting this comment on everyone’s blog that has updated in the last few days or so to bring your attention to both the discussion section and the mileage board. Please read the discussion here (http://fastrunningblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,324.0.html) and then vote here (http://fastrunningblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,348.0.html) if you have an opinion. If you already voted, I am sorry about the “spam.” Thank you!

A) Here I am again, "holding you" to that 4 your promised in this log..... Also, a note...I noticed on the home page of this site there is a menu selection for "Discussion Forum" and there ia a lot of stuff about nutrition/cooking in there. Have a great run!

LuzyLew & Lybi-thanks for holding me accountable today! I did make it out for a run, although it was way shorter than it should have been. Still miles are miles, right?
