Couldn't ask for better weather this morning! Low 50's, no wind.  Just perfect! Met up with Allison for a great run. She did almost 5 mi. with me and only had to stop once.  We kept just under 10 min. miles.  This is really good progress, she is used to only running 3 miles and stopping a few times throughout.  10 min. miles felt like an easy treat today after running under 9 on my recent training runs.  After I dropped Allison off I ran 8:44 for my last mile.  I see light at the end of the slow tunnel.  I think if I stay consistent with a at least 2 runs on my own (not chatting with friends) a week close and keep it close to 8:30 pace I will get faster right?  I think I'd just gotten lazy in my training and thought I could just go out & run without much of a plan. After vacation I'll treat myself to some new Mizunos, these will have over 500 miles on them.  I'm so glad Steve got me in these shoes, they've been great!

What a great new picture!

That's great that Allison was able to go longer. It's so nice to have multiple running buddies.

Have a wonderful time on vacation! I'll be thinking of you and waiting for that race report! Oh, that reminds me...I was going to tell you something that I think really helped me in my last 5K: surging. Now I know that surging in a longer race like a marathon is not recommended, but a 5K is so short I think it can really be helpful. The idea is just to really pick it up about once a quarter. Just try to take 5 seconds off each quarter. Don't ever slow down consciously, your body will naturally start to slow down, but the next quarter surge again...and again, and AGAIN! Before you know it, you will be done with the race and you can enjoy your new PR. I got this idea from watching an interview with Billy Mills, who is my hero.

Hey Guys- I'm checking "the blog" for what may be the last time until June 12th. Lybi I am totally going to "surge" in my 5k. Thanks for the idea. I'd never heard of it, but sound like it would work. You are my hero w/ your recent 5k PR!! I'm gonna eat up any advice you throw my way. You rock!

Shauna- You are smokin' too! I can't wait to finally meet you at one of the races later this year! Lybi & Mik'L have so many great things to say about you. Keep up the hardcore training!
