Bottom line - didn't make goal time- but still on cloud 9.  Can you say thank you endorphins?!   Day started off well. Met up with Sole Sisters and took the bus up together.  We started with a prayer- really loved that, started the day off just right.  I can thank that prayer for the peace I felt all race despite many obstacles.

It RAINED, RAINED and RAINED some more.  White singlet probably NOT best choice for today.  ha ha.

The first 6 were great, good pace (8:30ish) went by fast.  I was mentally prepared to be challenged on miles 7-11 and I was! ONLY it didn't end at mile 11, it lasted until 14!  Then I could pick it up on & off for the rest of the race.  I would have a good couple miles then struggle again. Did stop for 2 calf massages which was really nice.

Pretty much ran my own race.  Would see my Sole Sisters come & go, stayed with Shelly for most of the last half.

Fun to see Kim about mile 17- since I missed her at the blogger party last night I was happy to see her along the way. She was very strong despite some serious knee issues.  Think she still smoked me in the end.

Saw another chica with a FRB singlet and a cute pink running skirt.  Yelled "go FRB" and she gave me a nice wave, but I couldn't catch her.  Who were you wonderwoman?

This was a tough race!! The rain didn't help.  About the last 3 miles I knew it was sketchy at best that I could break 4:00.  I would have had to pick it up to 8:00 and I just didn't have it. However I kept up the positive self talk and at this point I would normally be crushed, but I wasn't.   I just smiled and enjoyed the cheering fans along the end of the route.

Felt a great since of accomplishment.  Probably earned about what I deserved due to my "erratic" training as Brent would put it (good adjective).

Got 'er done.  Had a good time with good friends.  Enjoyed every minute of it despite the rain.

1 ugly toe, a couple more are questionable.  At this point of course I'm saying I've had my fill of Marathons.  Maybe just halfs from now on- but give it a few months.

So fun to see you all briefly at the blogger party.  Sorry I didn't stay too long. Can't wait to read ya'll's reports!

Great job!!! Way to go! Wonder woman was Kelli, I think she said she was getting a pink skirt instead of her usual black.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

nice run and finish in tough conditions. It's actually these kind of reports that may inspire me to run my first marathon. keep it up

From Lucia on Oct 04, 2008 at 16:55:33

Great job out there! I'd be curious to read if you still think "you've had your fill of marathons" in a few days :) Congrats!

From Shauna on Oct 04, 2008 at 17:08:16

Yeah Christi! I have been feeling the same way about marathons, and running in general, lately...until I started reading all these race reports!!! You ran a GREAT race, especially given the weather challenge.

From linda10k on Oct 04, 2008 at 18:01:19

Great job Christi! I agree it was a tough race. Take it easy!

From tarzan on Oct 04, 2008 at 18:29:17

From Superfly on Oct 04, 2008 at 19:22:22

That's a really good time Christi. What a solid race! Why to go to battle today and kudos for having so much fun.

From Andi on Oct 04, 2008 at 21:48:50

Way to go!! I worried about all you runners today in that yucky rain. Glad it went okay. You are awesome.

From MarcieJ on Oct 05, 2008 at 00:47:36

From laura on Oct 05, 2008 at 01:10:20

YEA!!! You did it, Christi!!! It wasn't your goal time, but it sounds like the weather was taking off at least 10 minutes from most people! And, sheesh, every marathon is a DARN BIG DEAL!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Way to go! Still havnt been able to see you and several others on this blog. next time?

From Christi on Oct 05, 2008 at 09:39:46

Thanks for all the pat on the back guys!! I did feel better to read straight from Sasha's lips that he thought the wind & rain affected everyone's time at least 6 minutes. I feel much better about a 3:57 effort.

From Kerry on Oct 05, 2008 at 11:18:51

Congratulations on a great time under some tough conditions! There's a special challenge to the marathon that just keeps you coming back. Enjoy some time off!

From Kim on Oct 05, 2008 at 11:45:53

Christi! You helped me out more than you have any idea of! I was seriously wondering if I could run another step with my knee when you came by me. I had been stretching and praying and crying off to the side. Lots of people had tried to help me as they passed me. But it was YOU who came to my rescue! You will always be a part of my first marathon experience! I owe you a lot! Thank you so much for helping me get going again. I can't believe I was able to continue at that point. After a few miles it loosened up a bit and I was able to finish feeling pretty good. However, my knee isn't very happy at me as I write this here on Sunday morning. I hope I haven't completely trashed it!

Anyway, congrats to you for finishing while having injuries of your own! And thanks again for being my marathon angel!

From Bryce on Oct 05, 2008 at 14:46:31

Christi, nice job out there. What a tough day. You have an awesome attitude. Great time and you even enjoyed it! I need some of your mental toughness.

From MichelleL on Oct 05, 2008 at 18:39:31

Good job! It was nice to see you again Friday night!

From Michelle on Oct 05, 2008 at 21:09:42

Christi, What a great job on a crazy running day. We totally ditched after Clyde came through because we didn't have good clothes to keep warm so I feel bad we didn't cheer you in. I think your time is awesome considering the weather and stomach problems two days before! Great to see you again!!

From josse on Oct 05, 2008 at 21:21:26

Great job on the marathon!! It was great to see you and I love you atitude.

From Mark on Oct 06, 2008 at 11:30:55

Great job on the run! Super attitude

From Kelli on Oct 06, 2008 at 17:00:15

Hey, great job!! You are one positive thinker, I could use some of that!

I was not the one in the pink skirt, sorry! I wore a black skirt and a pink shirt! Way too much arm jiggle here to wear a singlet!

From Lybi on Oct 07, 2008 at 00:54:16

I definitely think this should count as a PR, given the crazy conditions. You are amazing! Your toenails went to a very good cause. It was so sweet to read that you helped Kim at the end. You are my hero.

From Brent on Oct 07, 2008 at 22:24:17

Christi, singing in the rain! Great smile and picture, without Gene Kelly. I am very impressed with your race. Hey, did the sole sister get found at the start, I heard a call for a lost sole. I have said this before, you are a talented Chicka if you choose to train harder. Nice to meet you at the blogger party, we need a longer party next year.

Stay Kool, Sole Sister Rocks, B of BS Rools out
