Hurricane Peach Days 12K today.  Loved this race, remembered why I like to run! My friend Heather ran it with me.  Small race, probably about 50 people?  Lots of senior citizens who cruised and kicked my trash!  This was my first year running this race, apparently the course changes every year to keep people guessing.  No watches allowed on runners, we had to predict our finish time ahead of time and how close you get determines prizes at the end.  It was already in the 80's when the race started at 6:15 so I was worried about getting hot, but it stayed nice & overcast and heat wasn't an issue.  It was a nice flat course, but with 3 miles of dirt roads in the middle. I was worried the dirt would mess up my time, but luckily it didn't.  I really liked this course.  There was water at mile 2.5 (where I took 1/2 GU), at that point we entered the LDS Peach Orchards where we ran for about 3 miles through the orchards.  Then back to water again at about 5.5 and less than 2 mi. back to start.  The orchards kept things interesting and really broke it up nicely.  I had no clue what pace I was going, figured about 9 min. miles.  Just cranked up my IPOD loud enough that I wouldn't have to listen to my very labored breathing!  Was pleasantly suprised when I beat my forecasted time by 20 seconds! So much of it was mental.  After mile 6 I wanted to slow down, but I kept telling myself- "you have to live with this finish time forever" and "this is your race"  "you got it"  "your're cruising"  Yes- I'm a dork! I averaged about 8:34 pace.  I won $22 for being about the 7th person to most closely predict my finish time.  Heather beat her prediction (she predicted 10 min. miles) by 39 seconds and won $16.  I was very proud of Heather, this was a good pace for her, under 10 min. miles and esp. since she had to take about 10 days off when she was really sick!  14 people were within a minute of their predicted time- there were two 1st place winners took home a combined $160.  It was a couple who finished together within 2 sec. of their predicted time. Very fun race.  (Of course they're always more fun when we're happy with our time, aren't they?!) Would do it again!

2 miles on treadmill at gym before 6am weight class. Left ankle (lower shin) is a little sore, but otherwise no pain from race Sat.  I think I'm actually builing a better foundation- yeah!  First time back to weight class in almost a month.  I decided to use lighter weights than usual so I wouldn't be too worn out today and also didn't want stiffness to adversely affect my running.  Planning on running at least 5 tomorrow with Buff & Heather and 5 again Thurs. w/ SG Running Club gals.  Will do 18 mi. long run either Fri. or Sat. depending on everyone's schedule.

Bad stomach problems today. I think I may have a bug.  No fun at all and couldn't get in my morning run.  I'm mad! Needed to get in some miles today.  Trying to lay low today and kick this so I can run tomorrow!

Tried the Raspberry Tea last night, think it helped my stomach a little.  However, woke up with a sore throat.  My son has had a cold for the past couple days so I shouldn't be surprised that I've caught that now too.  Jim's car broke down last week and we haven't gotten it fixed yet, so he informed me last night that he'd need a ride to work.  I was actually kinda glad 'cause that drug me out of bed at 5:15.  So I dropped him off and ran a 3.5 loop VERY slowly- 11:14 pace.  My stomach cramps would come and go, I felt kinda feverish.  But really not as bad as I thought it would be.  I think this is my first time running sick (except of course for those stomach issues that can come up on a race or long run).  I was happy I got out there.  I picked a route that was hilly (up over foremaster) which was tough- but I decided I wanted to do it anyway because the traffic is light and its well lit. I'm bummed at how being sick is trashing my miles for this week- exactly one month til SG Marathon!  So I'm off to get kids to school, then enjoy some more raspberry tea & off to bed!  Gonna try to kick this ASAP!

Stomach is lots better, but still not 100%.  Cold is staying just in nose & throat.  So felt good enough to go 5 (little valley loop) with Heather today.  Nice cool weather this morning! I don't even think it was 70 degrees out! Lovin' It! 10:16 pace.  Felt really good.  Didn't feel like I could go any faster, but DID feel like I could run farther, maybe a 7 or 8... I'm off to get kids to school, then some raspberry tea  (thanks again Sasha for the tip!) & bed.  Yesterday after I got kids off to school I laid down for about an hour, then felt too guilty.  So I got up & worked (I do mortgages from home) and then made a BIG Coscto run  (my family has a reunion coming up & guess who's doing all the food shopping for the group- yours truly).  Finished that just in time to pick the kids up from school and run them around to soccer & gymnastics.  I was running around til 7pm.  Kinda wore myself out.  Gonna rest more today!

Heather & I ran from Veyo to "The True Church" on Bluff.  18 miles.  Met up at 3:45 so I could be back for Toby's 8am soccer game.  Yes, we must be crazy.  When we got out of the car in Veyo we realized my flashlight was dead- I checked it at home and it worked- oh well...So it was a very dark run until about 6:30.  I was worried we would trip, but luckily we didn't.  My legs felt like bricks for the first 2 miles, but then everything was OK.  I never felt great, I could tell I'd been sick this week-but I felt pretty good considering how my week started out.  I felt slow the majority of this run.  I put on my IPOD for 3 songs and felt my pace dramatically increase thanks to the distraction- but then the battery died (lesson to self- charge the dang IPOD!) So most of this run I was pretty slow.  My ankles stayed a bit sore for the entire run, but not too bad- I was just aware of it.  It was so dark that we missed 2 of our bags of drinks & goodies- but that was OK.  I really wanted them to be more spread out anyway.  So we made 3 stops for water and 1 porta potty stop.  3:10 final time inc. stops about 10:36 pace.   Glad to mark it off the training list.  Feel more prepared now that I've run more of the route.  We plan on a 20 miler this next week, then I think we start tapering back down.  Getting psyched for the marathon! Before I got sick this week I was starting to think I'd really like to try to break 4 hrs. I knew it was a long shot and I'm not feeling very optimistic since I've been sick. The predictors I use tell me to expect anywhere from 4:02-4:12.  So I realize under 4 is really hopeful.  I'll be happy to come in anywhere under 4:15, but breaking 4 would be awesome...

4 miles about 10 min. average.  I wish my pace was a little faster, but I guess I should consider this a recovery run after Saturday's long run.  I met Heather at 6am, we were supposed to do 5, but "baby sabotage" so she had to stay home and I had to go it alone. (I really do love little Hannah, although it may not seem like it on this blog!) So I made up a little loop by myself.  Was lazy and took the first mile downhill, but made up for it later with the rest of the 3 being a gradual uphill climb.  I felt pretty good considering Sat.'s long run.  I was wishing I brought my IPOD for a distraction since I didn't have a partner and my cold was kinda annoying- felt it was interfering w/ my breathing.  But overall felt good, better than I did last week.

Step aerobics w/ weights today.  Thought I was going to a weight class, but the gym has changed the schedule.  SO- I ended up at a step/ weight class.  It was a fun change of pace, but not quite as much weights as I wanted.  I stayed after a bit to do some abs on the ball.  Slept in and didn't get my 2 miles in on treadmill.  But I feel great- the sleep was wonderful!  Plan is run at least 5 tomorrow & 5 again on Thursday.  Go long on either Fri or Sat.

Today I was the one standing up my running partner.  I woke up and just felt yucky & tired due to my cold even though I went to bed fairly early (10:30- that's pretty decent for me)  My cold doesn't seem to be getting any worse, but it just keeps moving around.  Now its in my throat w/ an annoying cough.  I thought if I could just pull myself out of bed and start running I'd be OK, but I didn't have the will power.  I told myself I'd get out there this afternoon- but who was I kidding.  If I don't run in the early am, it hardly ever happens later in the day.  I hope I feel good enough to run w/ the club tomorrow.  I'm going to try to get in bed before 10.

Great run w/ the "Club" gals today- Mik'L, Kendra & Jeannie.  We had a nice easy downhill (part of marathon route) 9:28 pace.  I felt good, I think sleeping in yesterday paid off.  Today I'm trying to finalize my 20 mile route for tomorrow.  I have mapped one out on 'map my run', but I need to go drive it and make sure its lighted out and no crazy obstacles... Heather & I will start at 3:45 tomorrow!

Thanks for all the 'get over the bug' well wishes everybody- I think I'm on the upswing!

20 miler today.  Started at 3:55 (I was 10 min. late) Met up w/ Heather, Chris and Chris' 11 yr old son- Nephi.  I picked this route and it wasn't an easy one! The first 9 miles were flat, then a gradual uphill climb for the last 11.  We were going really slow today.  I knew it wouldn't be as fast as our last 18 miler that we did in 3:10- because that 18 miler was mostly downhill (marathon route).  Oh  well- this was big time for the 11 yr old.  He's ran a couple 1/2 marathons, but this was his longest run ever.  We had 5 water stops, 1 porta potty and 1 gas station stop.  Took us 4:30 so about 13 min. miles w/ stops.  Miles 2-16 were good for me, but  my legs wanted to call it quit at 18.  I think that's because there was some sidewalk running from about 16 'til the end.  I would often just take my chances on the road 'cause I hate sidewalks so much- they hurt! And my IPOD died after about 45 min.  It did this on the last run too, so I'm starting to wonder if something is wrong with it... Anyway- glad its done.  I feel one step closer to marathon prepardness.  Now- big challenge- I'll be at Lake Powell all next week on a houseboat next to a cliff.  Really nowhere to run.  I will swim & wakeboard alot- but not sure how bad this will affect the marathon training.  We usually go to the marina a couple times during the week, so I'm taking my running clothes and hoping to log a few miles around the marina.

Have a great week fellow bloggers! Run hard and log some miles for me!

Back to real life today after a WONDERFUL week at Lake Powell.  We stayed on a houseboat in a Cedar Canyon (N. Lake Powell)  Not much beach, nowhere to run.  I swam, wakeboarded, wakesurfed and tried running in the water (my husband got a laugh out of that).  Nice active week with my family (sister & brother and their spouses & kids & mom & dad- my one sis who lives in NC couldn't make it- sad!) .  I hope not running doesn't negatively affect my marathon too much, its like tapering too soon.  Usually when I go to Lake Powell, we have to go into the marina for something so I brought running clothes to run around the marina- but we never ended up going in.  Weather was perfect, water was glass.  Great time! I finished New Moon and have started Eclipse- what will I do when these books are over?

Ran 8.5 today, my left knee was a little sore at mile 5.  This used to happen early in my marathon training when I'd get over 5 miles.  I guess the knee is trying to argue with jumping back into training after a week off.  I just stopped to stretch a little and its OK.  It never really got any worse during the run.  So I'm not too worried.

Ran last 5.2 of Marathon route today- started out downhill then flattened out.  Fun run.  Buff joined Heather & I which was good for our pace.  We were going off watches and some dispute about actual start time, but pace was average of 9:25. (One of us clocked 9:13, the other 9:36- so I'm going with the average) Buff is pretty quick and this was with her talking and entertaining us with stories the whole time.  (Took some pressure off me since I'm usually the blabbermouth, I enjoyed just listening for a change) She is thinking about going for a boston qualifying time this year which I think she is totally capable of! I'll have to let you know how she does.  My body is still in a bit of shock after not running for a week.  I just felt stiff for most of the run.  Seems like I felt good the last 1/2 mile only! Ah well... It'll get better.  Plan for this week: run w/ club girls tomorrow, Fri. run little valley loop (5 mi), Sat. Heather & I are doing Veyo hill repeats (we really know how to have fun)

The little valley 5 mile loop today, cut it a tad bit short by walking to the end of my street to start and ending again at end of my street (so it ended up 4.9 instead of 5 miles).  Today was an intentionally challenging run.  I was going it alone, just me and the IPOD and started late (11:30 ish).  The first 2 miles felt pretty good which is usually the opposite for me- usually it takes me at least 2 miles to get into a run.  But the last 3 were a challenge.  I was trying to do a tempo run and see if I could hold close to 9 min. miles.  But the heat got me.  I was running at noon and although it was cooler than it has been, it was 88 degrees- the heat still got me about 1/2 hr. into my run when the sun was right over head.  But I think this was good training to run in some heat- I haven't done that in awhile and it may get warm at the end of the marathon for me.  My average pace today was 9:15, I'm not thrilled with that, I wanted it closer to 9.  I think I better plan on a slower marathon finish time- I was daydreaming about breaking 4hrs, but I would have to hold 9 min. miles the whole time which probably just won't happen this year.  But hey we can always try right?!  I will just try not to be disappointed when I come in after the 4 hr. mark....

Probably should have ran 5 today, but did a hilly 4 instead 'cause its convenient to my house and heck- I like it! 9:09 pace.  A little quicker than yesterday.  Felt much better today.  Maybe my body is getting back into it after a week off.  I did have a buggy foot cramp (around the arch) that was really irritating the beginning of the run, I did stop & stretch it briefly then it was a better, but still there for the rest of the run.  Two of my toes are also bruised .  I may not have picked the best shoes this time, but I don't dare change them with the marathon so close - so I'll just live with it.  Despite all this complaining I did have a great run, put some new tunes on the IPOD and the weather was beautiful! Still went out late (10:00 am) but not as late as yesterday so it wasn't as hot.

Tomorrow Heather & I (and hopefully Chris) will be running Veyo hill repeats (6-8 miles depending on if we do 3 or 4 repeats, I guess the hill is a mile long? going off other runners' experience w/ this marathon) to try to psychologically prepare us for that tough part of the marathon.  I'm actually pumped to do it- am I sick or what?! hee hee...

Today we ran veyo hill 3x.  Boy it was harder than I remember, I've only run it once (run/ ran- can't remember my grammar).  Anyway- I'm glad we didn't it.  I think be better mentally prepared for that tough part of the course.  And I know I need at least 4 good IPOD songs to get me through that part!
