2.75 on dreadmill at my parents' house this morning before work.  Should have run longer but in a time crunch (aka I should have woke up earlier!) Foot got achey (sp?) and stiff after 2 miles, but that's better than last time when it got sore after 1.5 mi.  So I'll consider that progress!

Swimming at sand hollow today.  Not sure of the mileage but I'd say at least 20 minutes of moderate effort (more than just paddling around).  Did a few "laps".

Had a great 4th! Just RELAXED after a busy week of training in SLC for work earlier in the week.  It was nice to not do much of anything except hang out with Jim & the kids.  After the lake we watched the fireworks of course!  I was thinking of all the FRB racers today and hoping everyone had a fun holiday race day.  Looking forward to reading the reports.

Bike ride with Toby in the wind and heat.  Actually the wind wasn't so bad, it added some welcome resistance and made it so the heat was bearable.  I was able to get Toby to come along by bribing him with a gas station stop and $1 he could spend (this is like heaven for him)

The foot feels pretty good.  I have cross trained only (no running) this week which feels really wimpy.   But I think the rest was much needed for my psyche and foot (probably mostly my psyche- starting a new job is more stressful than I had imagined.  Its not the stress of the JOB itself, just the new schedule adjustment) I'm ready to give the foot a good try on Monday.  I plan to meet up with Heather for a 5-6 miler.

Worked, then in charge of enrichment at church tonight.  No workout today.  Should've gotten up early and got 'er done, but not gonna beat myself up about it.  Enrichment went great.  Had a service auction/ bbq dinner and the ladies had lots of fun out bidding eachother.

I feel so good that I ran today! I feel a bit more inspired now.  I have Bryce 1/2 in less than 2 weeks.  I'm NOWHERE near ready, but I decided I'll treat it as a scenic training run.  The under 1:50 is most likely NOT going to happen, and that's OK.  I've been going through a period of adjustment with the new job and I feel that things are getting better week by week.  This week I've worked out 2x and looks like I'll get in another 2x before the week's over. That's a foundation I can build from... just need to work in more & more workouts every week and extend the miles.

5 with Heather this morning.  Nice easy, chatty run.  Foot was a bit stiff, but not too bad.  I'm so tired all day after waking up at 5:00 am to run the past 2 days.  How do you all do it day after day?!

7 fun miles w/ Sole Sistas (Buff, Theresa, Stephanie, Heather, Chris & Nephi)  It was a great time and we took is slow & easy enough that my foot doesn't even hurt! (hopefully it won't start hurting later in the day like it has in the past)  10 min. mile average.  Finding it hard to get back to 9 min & under,  but confident that it will come back after a few good runs.

No big plans for the weekend, just a BBQ with friends this afternoon.  Looking forward to R & R!

Family went to new Washington Community Center and I jumped on the treadmill for about 4 mi. while the kids swam and Jim trained Jiu-Jitsu.  That's my idea of Family Night (j/k).  It's a nice gym.  We have a week's free trial and I think we'll be getting a lot of use out of this place!

Race: Run For Chelsi 5k (3.01 Miles) 00:00:00
Easy MilesMarathon Pace MilesThreshold MilesVO2 Max MilesCrosstraining milesTotal Miles
3.010.000.000.000.003.01

Pump class at gym this morning.

Tonight at 10pm my family is doing the Chelsi 5k Run/Walk which is a memorial run for Chelsi Petersen who passed away last month.  Today would have been her 21st BD.  She comes from a wonderful family.  I've gotten to know Lisa (Chelsi's mom) the past few years as our 2 boys played sports together and Lisa & I have been Room Moms together at school.  Chelsi was in her Freshman year at BYU and was an amazing athlete and track star.  My heart aches for the Petersen family.  I think having a run on her BD is a great way to honor her and show her family lots of love and support on a tough day.  You can check out info about the race at www.runforchelsi.com

 Evening Update:

Went to Run for Chelsi 5k to show our support for the Petersen family.  Jim had to work so it was the kids & I.  Lots of friends from the ward & neighborhood there as well.  It was a great turnout, hundreds of participants.  We did a couple laps around the neighborhood that Chelsi grew up in and people were outside their homes handing out drinks, cheering, playing music, etc.  What a wonderful support for the family! They had a fun raffle at the end too.  The community stepped forward and donated so many items, including 21 gift cert's for Pizza Factory each worth $21 since it is Chelsi's 21st BD today.  I hope my kids remember this event when they get older and the special occasion that it was.  I hesitate to even mark this as a "race" because I ran/walked with a good friend and we weren't being competitive AT ALL.  The point was to just be there.  It wasn't even timed, nor were bibs given out.  I just wanted to socialize and take it all in- slowly.  Saw Clyde & Logan cruising into the finish- FIRST of course! Yay! Go FRB!

Got 'er done. Better late than never (evening run).  On the treadmill at the new Washington Community Center.  Really liking that place.  My free week trial membership is coming to an end, I think they may have hooked me.  I can run while kids swim & rock climb and hubby trains jiu-jitsu.  Doesn't get any better than that!

Full disclosure.  I have decided NOT to race Bryce 1/2.  Sad about it, but the reality is my training has NOT been up to par the last couple weeks and I don't want to spend the $ going to Bryce for the weekend and risking injury.  SO- that's that.  I have scheduled a 10-12 miler with the Sole Sisters that I can take slow and not hurt myself doing as I build back up to where I should be pre-marathon.

I'm tired, hitting the sack.  Tomorrow's FRIDAY!!!! Yippee!

Really good training run today.  Went out and did 11.25 w/ Soul Sisters.  We were keeping in the 8:30-9:15 pace range.  I got in 1 mi. that was 8:25 so I'm counting it as my marathon pace mile on the log.  I felt really good during the run (best I've felt in awhile) and when the group quit at 9.5, I even added on 1.75 more.  We ran by the river and it was so nice and cool.  That makes a huge difference for me!  As hard as it will be for me to read those Bryce 1/2 race reports I think I made the right choice not racing today 'cause I wasn't ready.  I think the training run I did was more beneficial to me today. Saw Wild Bull on the trail getting in his 14 (he races Deseret News Marathon next week) He was looking good!

Great converstation as always with the girls.  Kids, polygamy, jobs, celebrity sightings, etc all game for conversation.  We're always looking for $ on the road and today we scored almost $2.  These girls have collected $130 in the last 2 yrs. just picking up change on their runs.  Its a hoot.  We joke that we look kinda like a 5k coming down the road (8 of us today)

I need to find a race to do before SGM so I can stay pumped.  I prefer local since it got complicated (and expensive) when I was considering taking my family to Bryce for the weekend.

I feel good about this week, like I'm finally getting close to where I was when I started slacking off in June.  Its been a busy summer, taking on a new job & everything else that summer brings with the kids out of school, etc.  I'm happy to be getting back on track w/ my running!

Ran to & from gym with Heather (she lives close) then Pilates class at gym.  I really liked the class, great stretches for all those muscles we use while running! I had to leave early and missed the abs though- boohoo! That's what I need the most!

I am in trainings all day M-W in Cedar City for the next 6 weeks so my blogging time will be very limited.  I look forward to reading & commenting on all your blogs this weekend! (Sorry for being a slacker bloggie friend!)

Let the day get away without a workout, but made plans with Heather for the morning so I feel better now.  We're going to run Foremaster repeats (with a small loop on top of Foremaster to try to get in some miles too along with the hill work)

Wow- now I know why I felt like my training was so bad in June.  I knew I had missed lots of days, but today I went back and looked at monthly mileage.  In May I had over 110 miles, in June I only had 55! Now I have about 55 with a week left in July so I won't hit 100, but I'm moving back up, so that's progress! I figure by end of Aug.  I'll be back where I need to be.

You would think that being in the RS Pres. for my ward, I would know that my Stake was holding a 5k?! I had no idea until the flyer was put on my door at 9pm last night (the night before the race).  I decided I would do it! I tried to get a friend & my son to come race with me, but neither wanted to do it with no notice.  So I went alone.  Glad I did.  There was only 3 of us from my ward there! Probably 30 participants? The course was pretty flat except for the UGLY 1/2 mile hill from 2.0-2.5 mi. on the course.  I went out fast and just couldn't maintain.  Definately not a PR, but a great workout nonetheless and really helped me see where my fitness it at (boohoo).  Splits went like this:

1- 7:44- I went out fast and realized 1/2 mi. into it that is was probably too fast.  I think I was low 6:00's on the 1st 1/2 mi.  I used to be able to go out fast and it would push me through a 5k, not with the shape I'm in now..

2-8:33- the start of mile 2 was the ugly hill as we ran up Price Hills Dr.  For any of you from St. George that are familiar with Desert Hills neighborhood- we ran all the way up Price Hills until it meets up with Desert Hills Dr. (yeah, I'm looking for sympathy here)

3-8:34- the last .5 was nice and flat, I was able to get back to low 7:00s for awhile, but too spent to maintain the 7:00s

I went out with the fast gals, met Steve H.'s niece who's on x-country with Logan as her coach (sorry I'm forgetting her name, Cali?).  We actually chatted for the first .25 mile which I think killed me off faster than if I hadn't been talking! I stayed as the 3rd place woman for the whole race , but was passed by 2 men- darn it!

The race measured .1 long (3.20) so I used my garmin time at 3.1 for my race time.

It will take awhile for me to get back to the 24:00 5ks, but I'm determined!

(BTW, I really wasn't sure where to log these race miles under VO2 max or Threshold?)

Met up w/ Buff & Jana.  All the other Sole Sisters were out of town or recovering from Deseret News Marathon.  I was struggling today, my body just DID NOT want to run! I barely got in 6.  I guess I should pat myself on the back just for getting up at 5am on a Sat. and running. According to the marathon training plan I'm using I should have done at least 12 today.  Oh well.  I figure I better listen to my body a bit.  I thought if I pushed it too hard today then the rest of my running would suffer this next week.  I got in 5 workouts this week consisting of 4 runs and 1 pilates class.  That's not too shabby.  Goals for next week: Gold- over 30 miles. Silver- 25 miles.  No bronze 'cause I want at least 25 miles!
