Met at Heathers w/ Sara in tow and ran to track.  Met up w/ Mik'L.  We ran a couple laps to warm up, then 4 x 400s w/ 200 recovery in between.  I liked this much better than 200s.  I could slow down just a little, yet still work on speed for a full lap. My first 400 was my best 1:37, the rest were slower, about 1:41 or 1:42.  Then we ran back to Heather's.  These girls are so fun, we had a great time this morning.

If I have any energy later today I'll try to get in a couple more miles.  Meeting w/ the trainer at 11am!

When am I going to fit in work around all this working out? Ha!

No problem about tomorrow. Today was good...I think I'll be sore tomorrow though. Good luck with the trainer today!

When you are short on time, track workout is the last think you want to do, even if it is time for a track workout. It takes forever to do any kind of decent mileage with a track workout involved. In that case, it can be replaced with a fartlek with brisk recoveries. But in any case, now is not the time for track workouts. In my opinion that I have stated on multiple occasions, until you have a very solid level of base, you should not touch the track.

I would strongly recommend that you stick with a very simple plan - 6 miles of jogging 5 days a week, and a bit longer on Saturdays if you feel so inclined, otherwise, just 6 miles. Do not get into the hills yet. Just as flat as possible, get out there and put in the miles.

Watch out, Christi! Sasha is absolutely psychic. I've seen him post something like this several times to other people, and if left unheeded, the poor blogger ends up injured within a week. No joke! Happened to me too. Just thought I'd pass that along.

I am very impressed with your workout, though! You are amazing. Whoa, this is a big day for your body, with your track workout AND a personal training session. May your soreness not exceed your pride, chica!

What is a fartlek with brisk recoveries that Sasha was recommending?

Great workout today!!! Sounds like a long one, though. Hopefully you're able to get out of bed with both feet tomorrow! ;o)

Well sounds like the PT was cancelled for today :( So when do you meet with her?

From Sasha Pachev on Thu, Nov 08, 2007 at 12:56:10

Laura - for Christi this would be something like alternating 1 minute at 8:00 pace with 1 minute at 10:00 pace 10 times or so, or until she feels she's done enough. But that should be done after a couple of months of solid base building, otherwise it would not be effective.

Hi Guys- I'm just checking the yesterday's blog (where did today go?! so busy!) Anyway- thanks for the feedback Sasha. I really enjoy the track time with the girls, but I know I do need more miles on those days. I also really like your idea of adding fartleks to my regular runs. I'm having a hard time getting out the door lately, don't know if that's because its after the marathon, change in season or what. I'm hoping to just get out and enjoy a few 5-6 milers alone over the next few days. And Michelle- the PT session is scheduled for Monday- can't wait!
