I'll get my moaning over with early in the report.  Whah! I really wanted to PR and to place (who doesn't right?!) I knew it would be hard to beat my 5k time from last year on this run (24:25) but I really thought I could, even if just by a few seconds.  Last year I can in 4th, really wanted to pull out the 3rd this year.  Well, it wasn't my race today.  Came in 6 seconds slower than last year and 5th in my age division. Shoot!  The hill in the 3rd mile killed me, I was keeping about 7:41 until the incline, then I slowed down to 8- something.  Lesson learned is to not slack off so much on my mileage.  March was a pretty low mileage month for me and I think this is the results.  I guess I also have to start facing the reality that every run will NOT be a PR.

OK- now for the fun report...

This race was fun for the whole family (well, except maybe my hubby- who is always a good sport to get dragged to these races over & over).  My kids did the 1k and they really had fun.  They both ran strong & fast (Toby came in like 4th behind some older kids).  Kids got some nice bouncy balls (like dodgeball size) and a medal.  They were stoked!

Also fun today because two of my dear friends were running it- Sara & Andi.  This was Andi's 1st race ever & Sara's 2nd.  They both did great and looked strong coming across the finish.  Lenae, a neighbor also ran it and did awesome.  Another highlight for me today was finally meeting KIM! She is so cute, can't believe she's old enough to have a missionary, she looks so young & hip.  We got to chat a bit at the start & finish- CONGRATS to her on her 2nd place win! Go Kim! Not too many gals from the blog, but did have a good representation of guys from the blog- Dave, Steve H., Dustin, Clyde, Wildbull, Tom (I'm sure I'm forgetting people)- all looking strong and finishing early in the 10k.  Got to meet another Steve (not Hooper)from the blog today as well, but he was on crutches, so no run for him (wish him a fast recovery).

Anyway- fun day & run for a good cause.  Here's some pics!

You still did awesome, even without a PR. I loved it. I still feel great. Definitely want to do more races. Thanks for the encouragement and the cheering you are awesome!! I'm not sad that I can't see my picture up there, but I did want to see the kids. maybe try posting them on the other blog.

Oh, bummer - my computer isn't showing the pictures for some reason. But it sounds like a great race, even if there was an infuriating 6 second difference from last year. What a fun day for everyone!!!

From Lybi on Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 14:33:21

Christi! I feel your pain. Only 6 seconds away from a PR! Was it windy there this year? This morning on my run it was so terribly gusty. I kept thinking 'I hope it's not windy in St. George today for Christi!' Any little thing could make a difference of 6 secs. 20 min. less sleep the night before, slightly less favorable temps, wind difference, whatever. All I know is that you've been racing really well this season, and your PR better not get too comfortable--especially with your renewed zeal for higher mileage. Congrats on your race! I feel absolutely robbed--I can't see your pictures for some reason.

Hey Girls- I THINK I fixed the pics. Thanks Laura on the congrats! Andi- You ROCKED for your 1st 5k, Way to go! Glad you're hooked, I look forward to more races together!

From Christi on Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 14:36:07

Hey Lybster- we must have been posting at the same time- yeah, the 6 seconds were a bummer, I wished I looked at my Garmin a bit more, I probably could have squeezed out a few more seconds if I realized how close I was. Ah well...No wind, can't blame it on that. I think I may actually be getting to the point with my 5k where I have to really BUST my hiney to PR!

From Jody on Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 15:41:57

You did awesome! That is a fantastic time on a very difficult course. That last mile is a killer. CONGRATS!!

From Brent on Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 18:46:18

Hey chicka, lesson learned today, running a race always teaches us something. Not not far off your PR. Great races ahead for you with some renewed determination.

Good job Christi.

From Tom on Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 21:43:42

Good job Christi! Didn't get a chance to meet you but Kim enjoyed meeting you and chatting for a bit. Hey I know all about missing PR by just a bit, only 2 seconds away today for me but that's how it goes sometimes. Like Brent says we learn something every race and never know for sure what might happen.

From Steve Hooper on Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 23:33:12

Christi - I didn't even see you guys at the race. Probably because the 5k and 10 started so far apart. Sorry you didn't hit exactly what you wanted to today. That course is not easy. Keep up the good work.

From Christi on Sun, Apr 13, 2008 at 11:55:01

Thanks guys! Yeah, this course isn't an easy one, guess I can take a teeny bit of solice in that- still I plan on upping the miles this month. Brent & Tom, you're right always lessons to be learned from races, better to not always succeed- makes us try harder. Steve & Tom, my tired family was pulling on me, so I didn't stick around after to hang w/ bloggies- but I saw you finish & you guys ROCK!

From Mik'L on Sun, Apr 13, 2008 at 22:45:39

Great job Christi! I was sad to have to miss it. It sounds like a beastly course though, so way to be close to a PR!
