Hello Running Buddies!

My sister and I just ran the Disney Marathon Relay.  It was sweet! We came in with a total time of 2:19:42 and were 17th out of 259 women's teams.  The Disney runs are good for the self esteem since so many newbies run them- ha ha!We rec'd an adorable Chip n' Dale medal and long sleeve running shirt.  We also had a great group of girls running as a "team" for Thyroid Cancer Awareness- team Neck and Neck! www.teamneckandneck.org.  Some gals ran the full marathon, some the half and my sister and I were the only ones who ran the marathon relay.  I love the marathon relay because you get all the excitement of the marathon by starting and finishing at the same time as the marathoners, and all the perks along the course (but only half the pain ;-).  Disney did it up well as always.  Characters were placed about every half mile or so with many wonderful photo ops and the chance to run through a few parks.  My sister ran the first half and I finished up the second.  The only down side of doing a relay is lots of waiting around! We had to take a bus in at 5am, even though her race didn't start til 6am and I didn't start running until after 8am.  Luckily we were prepared since we ran a shorter Disney relay a few months ago (The Disney Wine & Dine Half).  So I bundled up and kept my phone around to entertain me while I waited.  I'm so excited my little sis (almost 4 yrs younger) had really caught the running bug.  Now she's bugging ME to run! She convinced me to run my first big relay this April (the Southern Blue Relay in the Mtns of Georgia) and she also wants to do a Marathon and is even talking about an Ultra...ugh.  I tried to convince her that my glory days are over and I'm perfectly happy with Halfs and shorter but you don't know my sister! She does NOT take NO for an answer! ha ha.  She is reminding me that I'm not even 40 yet and still have a pulse, therefore no excuses.  I guess this year will be good for my waistline if I follow her lead.  I will try to post all race results here, but as far as daily life updates- you'll have to find me on facebook.  Not enough time in the day to keep up with all my blogs :)  Wishing you all a 2012 full of "runner highs"!

Forgot to mention...2 lessons learned from this race...1) Don't use the Cliff turbo gels! Oh my! I'm all for GUs, but those ultra caffeinated ones actually gave me some scary post race heart issues!! No more for me!! lesson 2) Don't buy shoes just cause they're cute. Yeah, I already knew this...but tested the theory anyway..Ouch. I traded in my roomy asics for some super cute Nikes and my toes paid for it :(
